The G-2/S-2 supports the commander's ability to understand the operational environment and visualize operations by leading the IPB process and portraying the enemy throughout the MDMP, developing the information collection plan, updating the intelligence running estimate, and developing intelligence products and reports. The commander's role is to direct the intelligence warfighting function through this relationship with the G-2/S-2. Commanders must stay constantly engaged with their G-2 or S-2; close interaction between them is essential as the intelligence staff supports unit planning and preparation through the integrating processes.
