The body of security strategy that shapes the conduct of stability operations includes the National Security Strategy, the National Defense Strategy, and the National Military Strategy of the United States of America (known as the National Military Strategy). A related strategy is the National Strategy for Counterterrorism of the United States of America. Together with national policy, a national strategy provides the broad direction necessary to conduct operations to support national interests.
