Commanders cannot exercise command and control alone except in the simplest and smallest of units. Even at the lowest level, commanders need support to exercise command and control effectively. At every echelon of command, each commander has a command and control system. Commanders arrange people, processes, and networks into command posts to best facilitate their exercise of authority and direction to accomplish the mission.
