A liaison officer (LNO) represents a commander. A trusted, competent LNO who is properly informed (either a commissioned or a noncommissioned officer) is the key to effective liaison. LNOs must have the commander’s full confidence and relevant experience for the mission. The LNO’s parent unit or unit of assignment is the sending unit.
