However, for routine matters, LNOs work for and receive direction from the chief of staff or executive officer (COS [XO]). Using one officer to perform a liaison mission conserves manpower while guaranteeing a consistent, accurate flow of information. However, continuous operations may require a liaison team or liaison detachment.
